Plot
This sprawling and often brutal novel, set in the rich farmlands of California’s Salinas Valley, follows the intertwined destinies of two families—the Trasks and the Hamiltons—whose generations helplessly reenact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel.

杰作，经典
最大的优点是作者的语言非常优美诗意，跟 Stoner (1965) 的语言是不同风格的美，有点像民间歌谣、古希腊长诗的感觉。
最后结尾的场景照应了圣经 Cain and Abel 的故事，瘫在床上的 Adam 就像是全知全能但又一言不发的上帝，Cal 和 Lee 要对他说话获得他的原谅，但实际上就是在对自己说话。
Lee 这个形象算是美国作品里最好的中国人形象了。
