- Now I understand the word Desert does not only mean sand dunes. The vast region in American West is a kind of desert, though there are bushes growing. Ursula mentioned herself the desert that inspired her was in Oregon, her own state. Sea can also be regarded as desert to some species but a lively world to others.
- There are some scenes that are quite moving, especially towards the end of the book. The first half of the book is more difficult to read as it is like a documentary of a different culture, so it is informative but not fun to read.
- 关于小女孩做出的重要选择，目前我觉得在那个情境下，选择的结果都很难预料，道德上也都是好坏参半，所以就像掷色子一样小女孩做出另外一种选择我也会觉得很合理。我可能还需要重读一遍看看。
- Ursula 的小说里还是会有些元素重复出现，比如被困在洞里的人，不同文化的冲突，人在不同文化里受到的冲击 (所以我觉得她的小说特别适合留学生读) 。
