Plot
The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it. To Kill A Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film, also a classic.
Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving, To Kill A Mockingbird takes readers to the roots of human behavior - to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos. Now with over 18 million copies in print and translated into forty languages, this regional story by a young Alabama woman claims universal appeal. Harper Lee always considered her book to be a simple love story. Today it is regarded as a masterpiece of American literature.

Notes
Summary, questions, thoughts, connections
- Harper Lee wrote the book in 1960 which is set in 1930s Alabama.
- The movie was released in 1962 that is so fast in the 21st century.
2024-12-17 resumed reading after a long pause since July.
- The title phrase appeared around half way through the book. And before Not to kill a mockingbird, it was it is ok to kill as many as bluejays…
- The father figure - Atticus Finch - is all too perfect. It is like he has raised 10 generation of kids and know exactly the best way to raise them. (until he accepted Aunt Alexandra moving in).
- That occurred to me Atticus and Alexandra are all Greek names.
- In 1930s, the climate is getting colder year and year. Now it’s getting warmer.
2024-12-19 Wife finished the book today.

- The audible version had southern accent. Took me 30 min to adapt.
Review
这书编排的太精巧了,反而变成缺点,要是留点遗憾,或者像红楼梦一样砍掉最后20%,可能会更有 “文学性”
